Surface Piercings
A new craze has taken the world by storm and that is under the skin piercings. Skin or surface piercings differ from traditional piercings because they are placed entirely under the skin. Although this is a new fashion trend it actually dates back thousands of years and can be linked to indigenous tribes who used skin piercing to mark certain celebrations and traditions.
Surface piercings can be placed in almost any part of the body where you can pinch at least an inch or so of skin. Popular places include nape, wrist and sternum. Where you choose to get your skin piercing will depend on how long it will take to heal. If it is in an area that usually has a lot of movement, such as the back of the neck, then it could take longer.
Surface piercings are much more likely to be rejected by the body compared to that standard traditional piercing and it is also claimed to be a lot more painful! In fact some studios even refuse to do surface piercings because of the risks that are involved. Body jewellery for skin piercings are also different from normal piercings – most commonly they are plain barbells made out of stainless steel.
